My lodge & home is located in unit 15 - only 9 miles northeast of Reserve, New Mexico. I started guiding New Mexico in 1989. I hunt a lot of the state but the Southwest portion is by far my favorite, due to the milder terrain, lower altitude 5500-8500 ft., and road accessibility.

For the past four years the Gila has had record moisture, this will most definitely encourage good horn growth and it has! I'm a bow hunter at heart, as are most of my guides. I believe bow hunters are more prepared and know more of what it takes to get a client close to the game they are trying to harvest.

New Mexico has some great incentive hunts for the Youth and some fantastic opportunities for the Mobility Impaired (Elk rut hunts). I pride myself on these hunts! Words can't express the look in young person’s eyes when they have taken their first deer or a person in a wheelchair shoot an Elk with his teeth. It is truly breathtaking. Due to the economy I've lowered some prices and discounted some of the other hunts. Being a small Outfit, with little overhead helps lets me keep my prices low.

Hunting

In the interest of humane hunting, all hunters have to submit to a basic shooting skills test before being granted permission to enter the hunting area. Only ethical walk and stalk hunting is permitted. Please note that we also cater for handgun and black powder hunting. We also cater for wing shooting of doves, guinea fowl, geese, graywing and quail in season.

Hunting Area

The Eastern Cape is the second biggest province in South Africa and stretches from the Tsitsikamma Forest to Aliwal North. The terrain varies from thick Bushveld to Savannah and from high mountains to arid Karoo. The Fauna and Flora as well as the bird life make it perfect for bird watching, hiking and photo safaris.

The hunting area stretches over 30000 hectares, from the Koonap River Valley at 1500ft above sea level, to the Winterberg at 7500ft above sea level. There is access to a private landing strip near Fort Beaufort. It's a comfortable two and a half hour drive from the Port Elizabeth Airport or 90 minute drive from East London Airport.

South Dakota License Information:

Archery licenses are guaranteed if correctly filled out and dated on time.
They have no deadline as long as you have them before the hunt.
Rifle deer hunters can apply for a license one of two ways: A license through a lottery drawing is available at a cost of $335 or a special buck license can be applied for at a cost of $505.
The difference in these tags is the general drawing is species specific and tougher to draw.
I urge hunters to apply for the special buck tag.
The general drawing application deadline is in June and the special buck application is due in April.
Antelope applications are due in August. Turkey applications are due in January.

"The past two years have given me a different look at the guiding industry and disabled hunters. The spring of 2010 I talked to Tred Barta who was looking to kill a  BC black bear for his show, The Best and Worst of Tred Barta. The talk of him getting a bear with his longbow from his wheelchair without bait was the topic of conversation. I figured with the aid of my hounds and a week to get it done the possibility of treeing a bear in a decent area and with enough manpower, I could make this happen. And sure enough Tred killed a nice boar black bear.

2011 came and Tred was looking to do another hunt. This time I had lined up a electric wheelchair with tracks to get Tred around on this hunt, hopefully with a lot less man power. Action Track Chair came through big time and once again Tred killed a huge boar and as well, found a new type of freedom from this great chair.

My family and I made the commitment to helping disabled hunters fulfill their dreams of hunting big game, exchanging their ground blinds for hounds. We then started  changing  a cabin and the house to be disabled friendly, adding wheelchair ramps and converting the cabin bathroom."
